It’s been over a decade, but the much-adored Nike Air Max Penny 1 “Orlando” is set to drop in 2022. The first signature sneaker of Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway, which hasn’t been retroed since 2011, will be welcome news to Orlando Magic fans and sneakerheads alike.

Originally debuting in 95-96 NBA season, the Air Max Penny 1 utilized Air Max in the heel and a new cushioning system at the time called Tensile Air in the forefoot, better known as Zoom Air today. The Eric Avar-designed sneaker also featured a half bootie construction, jeweled Swoosh, and the iconic signature Penny logo on the heel.

The Air Max Penny 1 ad campaign was also the first commercial that introduced Lil’ Penny, voiced by Chris Rock, a cocky loud-mouthed puppet mouthpiece to contrast the soft-spoken former All-NBA guard. Lil’ Penny would be a mainstay in the ads and commercials for the Nike Penny line and is still referenced by basketball fans and ad execs alike.

The Nike Air Max Penny 1 “Orlando” is set to drop later this year via Nike.com and at select retailers for $170. Check out the official photos below and stay tuned to our social media pages and Sneaker Release Dates page for any updates on the iconic sneaker.
