Hiphop pioneer Fred the Godson has died of COVID-19.

Bronx rapper, whose real name is Frederick Thomas, revealed on Twitter he was on a ventilator in the hospital on April 6. He had asthma and had impaired kidney function as a complication of COVID-1

His wife, LeeAnn Jemmott, told News 12 on April 8 that a doctor said he wasn’t faring well.

His wife has been prepared for the worst.

It was just like,’He’s gone and he’s gonna die, that’s it.’ I don’t even know how I felt. I just felt like I was going to die,” his wife LeeAnn Jemmott told News 12 Brooklyn after Fred was hospitalized.

Fred the Godson was featured in XXL‘s 2011 Freshman class. He released his mixtape City of God in 2012,hosted by DJ Drama. The tape included features from Diddy, Pusha T and Raekwon. He also collaborated with such artists as Meek Mill. This year, he released a solo project and a collaboration with Jay Pharoah.
